Default vent issue

Did a search and came across this post: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...aps-stuck.html

I have the same issue, vents are stuck on blowing out the floor. It looks like the white plastic piece is either popped off or broke. This is the one that is behind the ABS computer. Anyone know if this is still available at the dealer?

The 2nd vacuum canister that is behind the radio doesn't appear to hold a vacuum either. Do these usually fail like this? What I did to test was to connect a mity vac to it and give it some vacuum, it dropped from 20 psi within seconds. The vacuum hose connecting to the canister does have a good vacuum on it.

Thanks

No clue on the clip... best bet would be to go to the dealership, have a look at the parts diagram, and make sure you point out the correct piece..... see if they can get it. Being as your truck is 13 years old..... may not be able to. But, get the part number anyway, and then try LMC Truck. See what they can do.

Vacuum canisters do fail, the bladder drys out, and then rips...... no more vacuum motor. I think they ARE vented though.... when you apply vacuum, does it do what its supposed to?

That's just it, it doesn't do anything with vacuum applied to it. That is why I thought it might be bad. big pain to replace right now since it looks like I have to pull the dash for it.

Yeah, the first step in any of the procedures for vent/heater/a/c repair is "Remove from truck."..... Peachy. In order to get it out, ya gotta pull the dash.... if you are going to get that berserk, might just as well replace the heater, and evaporator cores while you are in there.

If you can apply vacuum, and it doesn't do anything, either the actuator is bad, or something inside the box is broken/binding.

heater core & evap were replaced at the shop last summer through warranty. Thankfully I dont have to worry about those right now.

What's even more weird is that my wild vents have disapeared now too. Just haven't had time to put in the new check valve I have for that one.

If your vents aren't doing anything at all..... might be why the wild vent problem went away. Personally, I don't see it as an improvement......

Still have any warranty left on it?

If you end up having to pull the heater box, you are going to need to disconnect the evap core.... which means have the a/c system recharged.....

What? Don't have your telescoping eyes? and third elbow??

I hate engineers that design these things. Whatever happened to making things simple to work on, and easy to get to??? Must be some unwritten law.......

i was changing my spark plug wires the other day a felt a random vacuum line hanging there. so i felt around until i found a nipple and plugged it in. now my vents work perfect.
also recharged the ac. the freon was at 10 psi, it was supposed to be at 40-50 psi.

p.s.
the line was right above the #8 cylinder.
the PO must have disconnected it last tune up.
