Youre wasting your money. Go down to NAPA, AutoZone, whatever and get a new stock replacement coil. There is no reason to go to a "performance" coil.

you do know that if the coil is putting out a higher voltage, then it can bridge a longer gap with a bigger spark.

However, it is best to mate a performance coil with a MSD box for the full effect. But a MSD box will not run optimally without a higher powered coil.

There is a reason that every serious 5.0 mustang runs a blaster 2 and a MSD 6AL.

Maybe bigger, definitely longer but possibly smaller. Unfortunately voltage alone is not the entire story.

Without bumping up the total energy transfer capacity to go with a higher voltage output a "better" coil could just end up trading in short and wide spark for a long and skinny one. Since its spark surface area that ignites fuel, not massive length or width, the game is to increase spark surface area.

To maintain spark diameter when bumping up voltage in order to run a bigger gap requires more spark energy. In other words...to speak of a coils voltage without ever mentioning energy transfer capacity is meaningless without knowledge of it's energy transfer capacity. This is why all those magazine ads are so frustrating. They all seem to think highest voltage wins which is not necessarily always true.

IMO the best engineered coils on the planet come from Nology. That's what I run on my bike. I like their wires too but no way I'm shelling out the dough for this stuff on my truck which clearly doesn't need it IMO.

I have a 99 dodge 1500 5.2 I found out that the coil was made with a 2 pin and a 3 pin plug . 90 - 96 have 2 pin and 97 up had 3 pin plugs . My 99 has the 2 pin so.... if you check the plug and if it's a 2 pin you can use the MSD coil part number 8228 .without a adapter plug . If its a 3 pin you can still use the 8228 coil but you will need the adapter from ACCEL part #140021AH
makes no since that ACCEL make the adapter plug for MSD and MSD don't...... But it is what it is and that's how you make it work . Or find a junk yard 2 pin plug and cut and splice
hope that helps everyone

Why? Not like it will get you any better performance..... If yours needs replaced, rebuild it, or find another stock unit. No point paying big bucks for something 'pretty', since you can't see it anyway. Not like anything is going to be more accurate, or give you any more power, no matter how much you spend.

That's not a distributor though.

And it doesn't give you any more power. You get a smoother idle, and maybe a bit better throttle response, but, you are adding another layer of complication to the ignition system as well.

Since I needed a tune-up I got this. I like the copper cap and rotor and 8mm wires. The coil? It's in the package deal, so why not. I've used MSD and Accel without any power gains on 5-6 cars I've put there items on. Not even smoother running. A good tuneup will do wonders and maintenance upkeep.
