Default V10 Swap - Pros vs Cons .

I have an opportunity to buy a 1995 8.0L Ram V10. It's a running engine out of a truck that got smashed by a tree. I think I'd begetting the computer and harness too.

It's a good price so I can either use it or flip it.

But this makes me think...are there any benefits to me swapping it into my 1998 Ram after a bit of work?

I also have a 1998 Durango...if that kind of a swap is even feasible.

Anyone got a V10 Ram and know the differences or what key things I would need to look at to get the engine into my V8 Ram?

V10 Ram...sounds cool...but it is? V10 Durango sounds even cooler...but harder. Yes, I know the truck V10 is NOT the same as the Viper V10.

if its all for go..maybe... with some pony upgrades while its out of the truck would be fun in a RCSB...but to use practically like for DD or hauling purposes, it might be more of a headache than u wanna deal with

Now the Durango it might fit but with heavy modification n fabricating...if u have all the tools shop n nohow Pfft go for it in either situation

Your gonna need a few more things besides just the engine; the computer & wiring, tranny, tcase, 3/4 ton-like suspension and axles would help to handle V10 power, just to name a few. Also believe the V10 is a little bit too long to fit in the engine bay as far as the fan to radiator clearance anyways...so yes fabbing may be in store.

I'd offer that everything in the V10 is a bonus towards a half-ton minus the engine. From what I've seen on here, the V10 is basically nil aftermarket support. Common issues might be a challenge to resolve. That would be my worry. Again, this is only from what I've gleaned from other posts around here. Your experience may vary, especially if you know your way around one.

There was an article in a 4x4 mag I keep on my toilet tank, they did a v10 swap into a durango, rockwells, 44 boggers and such. It was quite a nice mud toy. But for the actual motor swap they had to move the firewall back (not sure the amount, but any amount is a PITA). Maybe with slim Efans and some fabrication you can get it to work, but honestly it would be more cost effective to swap a CTD or any motor other than the v10 for that matter

Keep in mind, the 95 is OBDI, 98 is OBDII. Major changes occurred in there..... you would need to find a 98+ truck with the V-10, and same trans to make it work, and expect the gauges to work as well. Either that, or swap the entire dash to the 95 version.

V-8 trans won't bolt to V-10. 95 trans is hydraulically controlled, 98 trans is electronic. It would be a boatload of work....... and the assessment of very little aftermarket support is unfortunately, quite correct.

Sounds like flipping it might be the best course then...make a few bucks off of it.

+1! Stroke it!

The V10 should bring enough to get part of that done!
