New found love, the dodge ram.
Whats goin on everyone, my name is Ian i run a custom fabrication shop in melbourne florida called 2nd Look Customs. Proud to say i am a new owner of a 99 2500 diesel and absolutely love it. Unfortunately shes got one lil problem, and i am f'in stumped. Hopefully someone on here can lead me in the right direction.
My ac compressor was kicking on for a second then kicking right back off over and over. So i figured i probably had a clog somewhere so i rigged up a toggle swith to give direct voltage to the compressor (very temporary) to see where the frost built up. Seemed like the orifice tube was the suspect, so 3 bucks later i have it. Get back to the shop and pull the liquid line out, and there is no friggin orifice tube in there?!?! So that brings me to my question, where is it?
Also in you all expertise dodge opinion am i even barking up the right tree?
BTW it seems you are mostly into lifts (thank god) so stay tuned, within the next two months i am going to begin building this thing into a sick demo truck for my shop. But for now i appreciate any advice you guys can offer to help me with my ac problem. Cuz i am not sure that i mentioned, i am in FLORIDA!!! lmao

well welcome to the forum, and more-over welcome to the dodge family. try posting this same post in the cummins portion (im sure its a 2nd gen probablem, but they may be able to help more) and title it "A/C problem" and see if they can help to. but i know nothing about a/c. im just the welcomeing commitee.
go over to rockauto.com and look up parts. they have a great selection with pictures.
autozone's web site is pretty good too.
i don't know the answer to your question either, but it might be made into one of the hot lines.

The service manual says: DESCRIPTION
The fixed orifice tube is installed in the liquid line
between the outlet of the condenser and the inlet of
the evaporator. The fixed orifice tube is only serviced
as an integral part of the liquid line.
Seems you have to replace the liquid line? that seems just silly.....

I already tested the liquid line, there is nothing in it! I am baffled. And when I bought the orifice tube, it came as a free standing part rather than the whole tube. I am confused lmao
if it's turning on and off check the freon level on the compressor. i had a problem like that years ago in a sports car i used to own and it was low on freon! just my 2cents. i could be mistaken!! good luck and welcome to the forum family!!!!

The compressors do tend to kick on and off a lot more than other brands from these years, but if it is kick on for a second and then off and then on and off repeatedly, then you have issues. In the few cases I've had with this, it's almost always the compressor itself that has gone bad. Either because of age, or lack of oil in the system. Not a cheap fix even if you can evacuate the system yourself, but sometimes is just has to be done.
