Default Need help with an unknown...

I have a 98 Ram 2500 and I found some hoses and stuff that seem to go nowhere. There is a bracket at the back of the cab on the outside of the right frame rail that has two hoses coming back to it. There are two hoses going to the engine bay. One is hooked to the EVAP system I believe? I think the other was originally a dipstick but it is broken so I'm not certain. Back at the bracket, the one hose tee's off and it looks like it goes toward the fuel tank. Just wondering if anyone could explain what that might be.

Thanks,
Ross

Wrong link. That's a nice picture of someone drilling their valve body.

one of those hoses going up to the engine bay is a vent for the evap system. It may or may not have a vent cap on the end of it. Mine still has the cap and the hose comes up on the passenger side wheel well, right beside the vent for the front diff

Well my main concern is the fact that there is nothing back at the end of the hoses. On the other hand, that's how it has been since I bought the truck 45k miles ago. The other question is do the Cummins need one? I'm doing an engine swap at the moment and putting a first gen Cummins into my 98. I didn't see anything of the sort on the Cummins, but I was wondering if I need to retrofit it somehow.

Thanks,
Ross

That's funny, my evap canister doesn't look anything like that.

I think pavementsucks got tired of us linking to their tech articles because most of the time it just brings you to the main page when you link to an article.

ok, fixed again, or at least tried to fix it again.
yeah, sometimes i can follow a link all the way to the tech thread and sometimes it doesn't. they reorganized the site a year or more ago and all the old links broke, but even with the new links its sort of hit or miss.

Is there an EVAP system of some sort on the diesels?
