From I can find out they evidently came out the 2000 mile oil in 1928.
But I don't remember very many using it in the early 1950's in this area.

Did they get 2000 miles out of it by straining out the biggest chunks of dinosaurs?

On many cars up into the mid 1950's an oil filter was optional.
The big chunks came out when you drained the oil if you were lucky.

Well when I bought it back in October of '09 it was cold out then and it got 32 mpg. But since its been warming up its slowly been getting better, its at 36 now and thats a combined highway/city. I imagine it would get close to the 40 mark on the highway, that'd be nice! This will be the first summer I've had it so we'll see how it does. either way its much better than the thirsty 360 haha

It's interesting to see the difference in when everyone changes their oil. Wasn't there a thread on here awhile ago about how someone tried synthetic oil in their engine but the engine started running aweful, or somewhere along those lines?

It varies vehicle to vehicle. On some trucks, sludge plugs up leaks, and the detergent rich synthetic oil cleans out the sludge, and the leaks show up. Its just doing its job, but they blame the synthetic.

I have been using Mobil 1 then Royal Purple then back to Mobil 1 synthetic for over 30,000 miles now. No issues. Same in the wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee (2004) with the 4.0L I6, no issues.

Running 15k on Amsoil synthetics because thats what I put on my Ram in a year. I used to push my Jeep to 20k using the same oil when I was driving around 24k a year.

So long as the oils still good, you don't have tp change it. Blackstone Labs can analyze oil and tell you when its spent. If you're willing to pay for the study, you can see exactly when you should change you're oil for your motor and start saving money.

Why what? Do I run that kind of miles? Could be because Amsoil is rated for 25k or once a year. Been running it that way in vehicles for years with no issues, Saving over $50 a year compared to changing oil every 3k with conventional oil.

One of the major ideas behind synthetic oil was... It lasted longer, therefore, you wouldn't have to change it as often. Using synthetic oil, and changing in every 3k is actually wasting money. You are dumping perfectly good oil.
