If you still end up buying the pieces separately rather than as a package...

Moe's Performance has decent prices for the rear axle stuff. Thats where I got my Master Install Kit for my 3.92s (still sitting in the garage... someday will get used).

Ignore me if you get a package deal, otherwise that'll save you a little... still uses the good Timken bearings.

I thought about it a little bit and I have another question. I know Yukon is supposedly the best, but what about Motive gear, USA Standard or complete offroads brand? Those are so much cheaper than the Yukons and I've heard that all Yukon does to the gears is re-package them and ship them out.
I also know to avoid Genuine gear.

Looks like I'm going to be getting a True Trac for the front as well since I'm getting an unexpected bonus from work.

Jason, I don't know if it's because I'm about to fall asleep or if I'm going blind, but Moes seems a bit higher than complete offroad. I'll check into it all and get it all ordered when I can stay awake.

You know it's funny about gears. Five years ago when I got mine all everybody said was to avoid Yukons like the plague. Everyone on DT suggested Motives.

I ended up getting Genuine Gears as I knew two people personally with them and they were quiet and never had an issue. I ran a poll on DT (didn't even know DF existed then) and like 93% said to get Motives, 2nd were Precisions, 3rd Genuine, 4th Richmond and two guys out of about 55 that responded said Yukon.

Now all you hear is get Yukons, avoid Genuines...

5 years and about 30k on my gears with NO problem and not a hint of a whine. Changed the fluid about five months ago for the second time since break-in and all looked good.

I still say ain't no one brand significantly better than another and it's ALL about the install!
I think the reason Genuines get such a bad rap is that it's 4 Wheel Parts "house brand" and they pay their techs like $9 an hour. **** poor installs IMO.

Get a good price on the gears and pay more heed to who is doing the install than the brand of gears you buy...

Now the shop where my Dad works at that's all they use is Yukon. Never have had a problem, he doesn't buy anything other then Yukon and he has had his shop for 12yrs. It\s all in the install not so much the gears themselves.

So I guess I'll get the complete offroad brand if I can't find anything cheaper. I just wanted to see if Yukons were worth the higher price and apparently they aren't.

I'll be installing them myself in my shop, which is the front yard. Wish I had a shade tree out there...

I have a couple pines I am trying to get rid of.....

Take pics, and do a write up. I am real curious to see how this goes for ya. I want to re-gear my truck, but...... I have only done gears twice, and both times it worked out ok. (no noises, no funny wear)

You can have those pines, they make too much of a mess and chiggers love pine needles. They do smell good on a hot day though.

I've never done gears before but I can always get the instructions from somewhere. I know Randy's ring and pinion has a write up for it. I'll probably be calling 95_318SLT a few times while I'm installing them for pointers since he's done a few sets.

Well I just got off the phone with Complete Off Road and my bank account is 1,653.95 dollars lighter.
I've got Yukon 4.11 gears front and rear, Yukon install kits front and rear, setup bearings for the D44 and Detroit Truetracs front and rear on their way. I'm glad they have free shipping too, the UPS guy is going to hate me when his back goes out loading my stuff into his truck.

Randy's was 20$ more with USA standard gears front/Yukon rear, Truetrac front and rear, setup bearings and install kits with Toyo bearings so that's why I went with Complete Off Road.
The guy at Complete Off Road told me that their brand of gears are Yukon and that they get their stuff from Randys, learn something new every day.

Come on 14mpg, I can't wait.
