I have a question about a conversion.
I own a 1996 Dodge 1500 Laramie SLT that is 4x2. Do you think in any way it would be possible to convert it to 4x4? And can someone give me like a list of prices maybe, or a place in Central Illinois, that I may be able to pick up a front axle and a transfer case? I just got my truck yesterday, an it was my first truck I ever bought, I just got my license hehe (: And I kinda wanted a 4x4 but just couldn't afford paying $8000 for a 2ND Gen That people were over pricing on craigslist. Well, if someone could help me out, or even possibly give me a lead on any info that would be great!
The reason I would like to convert to 4x4 is because I happen to live an work on a Dairy Farm, where I must drive my truck into muddy pastures, threw the creek crossings...Etc.
Thanks,
Jeffrey

my dad looked into doing this one time with his 99 2WD. All the 4X4 shops around here said it would be at least 5 grand and you would need a whole 4WD donor truck to pull it off.... Not worth it IMO. Needless to say, he didn't do it... Like charlie said though, anythings possible with enough time and money

Just find a doner 2500, preferably one that went sideways into a pole so the axles won't be damaged. Then take the steering components, leaf springs, leaf spring hangers, axles, spring perches from the front, track bar, transfer case, and 4x4 shifter vacuum lines and you'll be good to go.

Yeah, today I was looking at another dodge, it was a 1997 1500 4x4 Sport with a 2" lift and they were asking $7000 with 125400 miles exact. It is a 5.9L just like my 4x2. I am a great wielder especially for being only 16. But, about the truck kbb books it at around $4000-5000 depending on condition... But then again dealers always want you to spend more i guess.
