does the light come on? its possible its not completely shifted into 4x4. the light would engage, thus actuating the CAD, but tcase might not be in 4x4. thats easy to check though; pull on the shifter harder.

your problem sounds like the CAD is broken still however. if it makes no noises/sounds etc, its either not in 4x4 or the CAD ain't working.

I don't think any thing is wrong with the linkage because the transfer case will engage. And what is a cad?

Central Axle Disconnect. On the passenger side of the axle. Should be two vacuum lines, and electrical connector, and a vent hose coming off of it. Make sure the vacuum lines are hooked up....... Check for vacuum there as well. Vacuum should switch from one line to the other when you shift into/out of 4wd. If vacuum switches, you have an internal problem. If vacuum is missing from either side, you have a leak. (rather common.)

it should feel pretty strong, same as a hose up at the intake manifold.

edit - my steel vac lines at the trans cross member were mangled and leaking.
