Default 99 5.9 magnum with 98 5.9 pcm?

Im getting a 1999 360 magnum with 100,000 on to put in my 98 that already has a 360 in it. I was wondering if i have to change the pcm when i put the new motor in it? I dont think i have to but not sure.

That's a very good question. In lieu of that question, I would be looking at the fuel injector specs as well as what other electrical changes and revisions took place at the sensor level for this is where it will / would require either the correct programming or, the correct PCM.

So, the question is: is the EFI system and sensor level identical between those two years?

That's the question: Are there different sensors thus requiring different grounding schemes, different pinout etc etc.

The basic engine is exactly the same. Just put your intake/sensors and such on the new motor, and it won't be a problem.

+1 to keep everything as a 98.

also, if the new to you 99 engine hasn't already had the plenum fixed, and you plan to keep it, put in a hughes plate while you have it out. if your 98 already has a hughes plate on the intake, just swap it over.

remove or protect the crank position sensor during the swap. easy to damage.

ok thanks guys, and im gonna get the engine and rebuild it in my garage and make it a performance engine. Performance heads, 1.7 roller rockers, all new bearings and and most likly re ring it. Then put some headers on it and most likly a sct tune.
