Default 318 popping and spudering

When i first start my truck up it almost seems like it dont want to stay running for a few seconds, then it idles norman, it runs realy good untill the temp gauge is at 190. Then it is very spuddery, theres a loud pop or back fire, and it surges realy hard in 4th and 5th(its a manual 5 speed). But ill push the clutch in and rev it and it sounds good, and it will idle normal. Sometimes when its worm it will not spudder or pop at all, then out of the blue it will start doing it again. Since its a 95, it has an egr valve, could that be it? Apparently it just had a tune up, 2000miles ago. I just got the truck and this problem is getting worse. Its the 318. Thanks

Take a trip up to the parts store, and have them read the codes. That may tell the whole story right there.

check cap.rotor.plugs.wires and re-gap them to spec.95 318 is .035 iirc..try to get it to sputter this will sometimes get a cel to pop on.could be anything from the egr, coolant temp sensor.o2 sensor.coil.start will the simple ones you know how to test and go from there.service manual helps.what did the last owner do to it is the question?

in your first post, you mentioned that it runs pretty much ok until it gets to normal temp of 190, then starts running poorly.

this indicates its running poorly in closed loop, where the pcm is listening to all the sensors, especially the O2. i'd replace it.
