Default Couple questions for my '96

Hey guys.. I have a 96 Ram thats been lowered on air bags and has a crate motor in it(original motor died due to oil pump :/) that I have a couple questions on.... I am looking to do a true dual exhaust w/ a xpipe, but wondering how well it works on these generations of trucks, and what it sounds like.. also.. it tends to throw on the cel every now and then once the gas tank falls below 1/4 (the tank is in the bed) I had my local auto parts store run their diag comp on it and theirs say its a evap code.. ill have to get the exact code again... and my next question is.... my engine, when i full throttle it tends lose rpm then gain it quickly a little sputter shall we say.. is there anything i can do to fix that? And one final one... when i changed the gears in the rear, it bumped the mph up by 20mph and theres no one that can fix it. Local shops tell me theres no gear, and has to be done electronically, yet when i took it to the dealership to do that, they said it wouldnt let them because of the rear abs? I guess my truck has rear abs and not front...The performance modifications i have on it are AEM Brute Force dry cold air intake, ceranmic coated jba cat4ward headers w/ factory y-pipe and cat, 4.11 gears, and a detriot true trac thanks for the help!

do you have all the original fuel return lines and such hooked up?

some tuners will let you fix your speedo

well its from dodge, I ordered it from the local auto parts store, all the original stuff is all hooked up, as far as tuners go... There are no tuners that want to work with my 96's ecu... the only thing i know of is to send it to kenne bell for the optimzer computer upgrade

To fix the speedo you need to change the speedo gear towards the rear of the tranny, there is a thread going right now on this subject....I have no clue what gear you need but maybe someone else can help you with that

I run a magnaflow muffler with an x-pipe in it I love the sound and it saves room and allows me to run one muffler, there is a couple more brands that have a muffler with x-pipe in it, might be something you want to look into.

WOT bogging could be a number of different issues.
Pulling any codes other than the evap?
When you bought the motor did it include the tb & all the sensors on it?
TPS or IAC could cause a bogg when going WOT.
Should be replaced if they havent either way.

Kenne Bell optimizer is garbage, barely worked with their superchargers.
SCT tuner is the only tuner available that works with a 96.
You can not adjust for gears or tires with it.

Thats pretty sad that the dealer doesnt even know how to adjust the speedo for a gear change in a 96.
Id say find another dealer cause the one your going to is incompetant.

Must swap to the right speedo gear based on tire diam & gears in the diff.
Speedo gear is located on the drivers side of the tailshaft.
Takes about 5min to swap it, best to use a bit of rtv sealant on both sides of the gaskets as they tend to leak otherwise
410 gears depending on tire diameter will probably need a 36 tooth gear.

Someone posted a link to a very good page with all the speedo gear info relating to tire dia vs gear set ratio vs speedo gear needed in the thread mentioned earlier.(link below)

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...eter-gear.html

Curious what your using in the front end of your bag setup?
Belltech spindles & adjustable upper arms?

do you have a gas cap still lol? maybe that could be causing it...not building enough pressure when fuel is low....gas cap will set off an evap code

@redhead thanks bud ill have to check out the magnaflow
@RM Indy no other codes other than the evap, the new motor came w/ all new sensors, so ill have to check the IAC and TPS just in case.. Where can I pick up one of those SCT tuners, and how much on average do they run/what type of gains can i see from it? and ya im planning on going to Woodhouse since theyre the only other good dodge dealership i know thats close by to me.. As far as the front bags go... All i have done so far is just done a little modification and stuck the bags in there, stock control arms and spindles for now until i get can get the 1k for the airbag control arms, it aint cheap haha..
@95ram yes I still got a gas cap, i had to get a locking on even just due to people stealing gas in my neighborhood lately

thanks for all the help guys!

PM Hemifever here on this website for the tuner. They run 275 for a canned tune. (stock motor.) From everything I have read, they are MUCH better than any OEM tune.
