Default ebay Transmissions

I am in the market for a new trans. I have been shopping around locally and getting quotes of $2600 to rebuild mine. Trying to balance my hard earned money with my time, I maybe looking at swaping it myself. The truck is an extra car so it isn't a big deal if it is down for a week or so. I have seen rebuilt trans on ebay for $950 or so, but I am kind of leary of buying an ebay trans. Has anyone bought one of these and how has it worked?

better than the $2600 you got quoted, can always sell your old one to help pay for this one

Most of the tranny's I see on ebay for under 1000 bucks are used..... I.E. not rebuilt. The rebuilt ones I see run close to 1500 bucks. (and come with a 3 year warranty... as opposed to 30 days.....) Some of those used fellers are dirt cheap though..... I could see picking up one of the used ones cheap, rebuilding it yourself, and saving a pile of cash, and STILL having a rebuilt trans, that is better than when it came from the factory. There is a wealth of information on rebuilding in the transmission thread in the FAQ section. Have a look.

$2600 to rebuild includes removal and installation labor.

Remove and install cost $400 around my area, and it's pretty expensive around here (San Francisco bay area).

I talked to these guys ebay link and their $950 tranny is actually $1209 when you add in the torque converter and shipping. What I like about them is two things. They don't charge a core they just expect you to send the old one back, and they have a 30 day warranty that if something goes wrong they pay for removal and installation labor then it has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Really? $400 labor to pull and install a transmission? That is cheap. I can't find anyone even close to that.

$2600 might be alot but its worth it....my tranny was rebuilt 26K ago ($2400 and change) and shes a beast....ive taken water in my tranny to where it wouldnt shift out of first, overheated it a few times....and doing a simple flush and changing the tps fixed it, and shes running beautiful right now...havent had a problem with it since i flushed it....so that tells me, expensive rebuilds means quality parts....
