Lightbulb E85 Conversion Kits

Has anyone attempted to convert their 2nd Gen to E85? If you have are there any kits that are better than others? It seems to be reasonable at a few hundred dollars and I wouldn't mind saving $0.60 to $1 on a gallon at the pump.

Thanks!

Is E85 cheaper than regular where you are? It isn't here..... also, your fuel economy will suffer..... alcohol doesn't have the energy content of gasoline.

I haven't seen any kits..... I would guess though, that you would need to put higher flow injectors into it, and re-flash the computer for the new fuel. Should be about it.

In the long run, you'll end up spending more money. Although, it will hurt less at the pump.

E85 operates around 20% less than that of normal gas and about 15% less than that of 10% blended fuels.

If I could run normal unleaded gas with no ethanol in it, I would be seeing between 15 and 17 MPG. With these 10% blends, I'm between 12 and 16 depending on how, where, and the weather.

That said, you'll also need to go through and install new seals in the fuel system. Alcohol will dry out seals over time and that is accelerated on seals that have been soaked in petro for many years.

If you want less pain at the pump, buy a 4-cylinder.

I would, but, I don't think it would be an easy swap into my truck, and damn, would it be a DOG!

To get more benifits of E 85 you also need to raise the compression ratio.

Just curious is all. I read a bunch of online articles that say all fuel systems since 1988 or something can handle E85. They also claimed that E85 is no more corrosive than unleaded gasoline.

There are a couple of companies that make the kits. It looks like an add in ROM or something. I dunno. Oh and I already have a 4 cylinder as a DD so I the mileage thing isn't a huge deal to me. Like I said, it sounded interesting.

The kits i've looked at plug into each injector to "let the injectors stay open longer" and say the o2 sensor will adjust for the amount of fuel so you can run any type of fuel mixture. Not sure how a magnum would run on e-85 as stated before higher compession is more effeicent with e-85. I have really considered doing a conversion, not for fuel savings just the fact i'm burning corn grown in the US opposed to supporting oil companies. The only thing that as me hesitant on the conversion is 1 the $450 for the kit and 2 the possibility of my truck running like $hit. This is the kit i've been looking at:

A lot of the guys on the Mustang forums run E85 in SC or Turbo cars because they can crank up the boost from the high levels of octane. After really looking into it you could make a more powerful engine from it but for economy, it's just not really there.

It could be fun tho.
