Default wheel bearings

I posted a while ago about weird noises from my axle when it's cold out. I've decided to just go ahead and replace the wheel bearings, it makes the most sense, plus can't hurt at almost 300,000 miles. What seals and other junk have to be replaced to change the wheel bearings?

you have a diesel with the dana 60 front, so you might have a little bit of difference compared to the d44 in the 1500. i don't know for sure on d60, but on d44 you remove the brakes, axle nut, back side 12 points. replace bearing and reassemble. if you don't pull the axles, then you don't touch the seals.

on d44 the axle seals are down at the diff and cad. i don't know about d60, but i think its the same.

if you do pull the axles, then grease the axle ends, and be VERY VERY gentle on the seals when reinstalling. screw up those seals and it'll leak like a mother.

did you ever fix your cad engagement problem. my poor engagement was the bushings and burrs on the splines. it engages so sweet now.

+1
yes the 60 is nearly the same as d44 till 1999
If you do pull it apart that far, Ball joints and universals can be replaced, but like DHV said be VERY careful of the axle seals when you pull the axle shafts

I'm replacing the bushing/bearing for the CAD at the same time I do the wheel bearings. THanks guys, I just didn't want to get it apart, and find out I can't put it back together without some part I might have to order or somehting. Haha

I was trying to look up the wheel bearing, and on google I found abunchthat are the whole hub assembly, but on NAPA it was just the individual bearings. Which is it?

2 or 4 wheel drive? If four, it is a hub and bearing assembly. Not sure what bearing NAPA is trying to sell you.

2wd is a full hub assembly. Bearings are sealed and not replaceable. ICK about the front axle in a 4x4 app.

older trucks had serviceable bearings, IIRC.

for a 4wd, napa calls it a hub assembly, not a bearing. searching for bearings only finds the 2wd version which is a standard tapered bearing.

if you're not sitting down, you better, they're about $250 each.
check other sites and locally for Timken brand. you can find a better price, but beware they are heavy and shipping will be expensive.

advance auto has them for 98.99, but thats for the 1500 so the heavier duty ones might be more.
