Is it possible to delete the EGR valve on a '96 5.9?

What would be the benefits of this?

No EGR in 96 (at least on Dakotas). Mine is gone because of a non-EGR M1, I took the tube off the manifold, cut it, then pinched it in a press and bolted it back on.
