Default front axle noise

I've been hearing a weird noise coming from my front passenger side tire. I thought it was a rock in the break...but wasn't. I jacked it up and removed the tire and didn't see anything. Then i spun the shaft and heard a clunking, rattle noise. Sounded like it was coming from inside the axle...It is 4x4...the noise speeds up as the truck does. I've been driving on it for a month now and it hasn't got any worse...

Any ideas...suggestions

Thanks

Possibly bearings/bushings just inside the axle tube. Pull the CAD unit off, and have a look inside. See if anything is obvious.

check axle u-joints for any play by twisting them. see if it makes a click-click or clack-clack sound.

if not bearings or u-joints, put it up on jack stands and follow the noise. check at the cad cover. rear side of passenger side axle. have a drain pan handy, as a cupful of gear oil will come out. your shift fork and collar might be dragging on the inner axle.
