well i must have been to specific in my search. all i can find is that most swaps are late 90,s and other than changing flex plate and torque conv. (until i find a computer) it is a direct swap and will actual start and run albeit lean till i get a new comp.?

yes thats what ive heard as well....not sure how different the 2000's are but ive heard there are some changes with the 2000's...IMHO i think it will work if you get the comp, TC, and flex plate....bolt patterns (im 98% sure) are the same thing from a 5.2 vs. 5.9

check out http://car-part.com you can a comp for cheap...it lists pasrts and junkyards if you jsut fill out the info for your area....very handy website.

also make sure the motor is from at least a 98 up.....the 94-95 rams are different (tranny and emissions) vs. 96 and up....but ive heard of changes in the 98's as well (could be wrong) thats why i say get a motor thats from at least a 98...

just grab the PCM from the truck you pulled the motor from...and grab the engine wiring harness.

Then you just do a swap!

but the much easier thing would be to buy a truck with the 5.9 in it. You would actually save money and time.

If he could find a donor motor and PCM out of the same year truck, it would be a fairly simple swap. In all reality, not sure the year of the motor would really make that much difference, so long as it was 98 or newer.... the pcm would be more likely to be year specific as far as pinouts, and such go.

sometimes it is not as simple with a swap. If he had a 1995 and lower, it is a completely different PCM and wiring harness.

Also, the fuse boxes (PDC) seem to have different relay locations from year to year. And sometimes there might be one wire, from a corresponding pin in the PCM, that can be different from year to year. The best way to be sure is to get the engine, PCM, and engine wiring harness from the same year as the donor motor.

also, if you get a donor motor from a cali emissions truck, you better have 4 o2 sensors!!! The PCM is sxpecting 4 connections to those engines. having a cali truck STINKS when you are wanting to delete precats. YOu would need to buy 2 O2 sensor simulators from thefastman.

But for a 1996, it should not be that bad.

its a simple swap..all motor's 94 to 01 interchange...just less intake and possibly right exhaust manifold..just use everything from the intake up off of your motor if you get an older motor..and plug off the egr on the exhaust manifold if it has one or just use your exhaust manifold..and use the cam and crank sensor off your motor..and you'd also need to get a flexplate with the 5.9l..your best bet if to get hemifever to tune your pcm because the pcm in your truck is vin specific and won't comunicate properly with the other module's if you just pop a junkyard one in..you'll definitely throw a vin mismatch from the abs module..basicly if your well informed its just as easy to drop a 360 in there then it is to drop a 318 back in..
