I had a '93 Silverado that went 328k miles... Yeah, I know, that ain't no Dodge- but that should make it that much more amazing... Point is, if you take care of it it will take care of you... Now, you're buying it used and that makes a BIG difference because you don't know HOW it was treated..

One way to look at it is this: it has made it this far, so somebody must have done something right... Another way- the current owner knows something and is dumping it.. Filled it full of honey and sawdust, ect...

Is it from a dealer or person-to-person? I would consider person to person, where I likely wouldn't touch a dealer vehicle with that many miles.. but that is just me...

this is a little off subject, but I'll toss it out there anyway: Every single time in my life that I dealt with someone (financially or any other way where there was a level of trust) and they lied to me, and I knew it, but went through with it anyway- I got hosed and had massive regret... tying that in:

You're already having some misgivings or you wouldn't have asked here- that is one big strike.. ANY more strikes and I'd walk... If the seller hems or haws one bit about anything and you suspect something is amiss- don't let your wants win, walk instead.. There will be another deal just down the road..

I used that Silverado to haul a trailer three times a week from eastern NC to eastern KY.. My father just got rid of it a year or so ago with that 'cash for clunkers' thing.. It was still a good runner, but had a bad steering box and looked like hell... With today's deals out there, I would consider (first time in my life I can say this reasonably and because of the deals available) a new vehicle.. You take care of it and again, it will take care of you..

good luck bro.

Yeah, alot of people are saying that they have trucks last over 200k miles. I personally drove my '94 Ram to 216k miles, on the original transmission to boot. The difference is that the people saying that have had their trucks for a long time, know their trucks, and have taken care of their trucks. When you buy a truck with close to 200k miles on it, you really don't know what you are getting. You don't know what kind of service has been done. Was the transmission replaced? Rebuilt? Has it been serviced at the right intervals? What parts have been replaced? What parts need to be replaced? Did the previous owners do the routine maintenance such as oil changes (you wouldn't believe the people that will go 10,000+ miles on a single oil change and wonder why they have engine problems)? What were the driving habits of the precious owners? How much towing did they do? Was it ever used as a plow truck?Carfax can give you some really good clues as to the driving habits of the previous owners, but can't provide any conclusions. Like I said, if you know you are buying a beater work truck with 200k miles that's cheap, then a truck like that wouldn't be that bad. But for a daily driver, I would seriously reconsider buying a truck with that many miles. Just my $.02

I got 330k on my daily driver (96 2500 4x4 5.9) and only regular maintance so far(knocking wood like crazy)lol. Any vehicle that is taken care of will last imho. My Dad's 75 chevy has over a million and it still runs pretty strong. It all depends on how it was taken care of and how you take care of it. I always treat every auto I'm gonna buy as if it had a broken od and milage is unknown. look at everything you can. A truck with 1 mile can be a dog and the one next to it with a million can be the best truck ever just depends. At least that's my opinion anyway. But hey you asked

Don't buy it.

Obviously you are not happy with the 200K miles, so when it's time to start fixing (and the time will come as soon as you start driving it) you will kick yourself in the butt for buying a truck with so many miles. Whereas if you bought one with 90K miles, when you start fixing (as soon as you start driving it) you can tell yourself "At least it has low miles"

I bought my $900.00, 2000 Dakota Std trans, in 2014, privately from a fellow who had "had it" with her, having put 108 K miles on her, and now had issue with flaking clear coat, some roof -surface rust, and water pump leaking.

I pulled the WP, replaced the gasket, repainted her twice, and so far put another 80K miles on her.
I like working on her issues, like a leaking steering rack, I replaced,
warped brake disks (latest is frozen Plugs, requiring a head replacement)
and she has served me well. I have so far, never had it in a commercial shop
for repairs (except for State inspection,) and was led to believe, that I had a blown head gasket, evidenced by oil in the coolant reservoir... Impossible to have that amount of oil as I had just changed the coolant that AM. At home I cleaned out the reservoir, pulled at least a cup of black oil from it, and from the next coolant change, to this day, I never saw any more!! I feel they were trying to scam me into a head gasket replacement. Nope! I was a bit smarter than that!

But given my health She will probably see a shop for the next repair,
as much as I distrust them being honest.
Yeah, I know... not all shops are dishonest, I just have huge trust issues!

They may not ALL be dishonest, but, why does it seem so hard to find one that isn't?

I've got this theory.......
They're hiding from the trolls that want to throw them under the bridge!
What else, could it be??

ever wonder why they're called toll bridges? People couldn't spell!
