Thats what all my research pointed to. They switched the Dodges to the RE trannies when they converted them to OBD II.

If I am mistaken on that, and you can prove it, I will change the FAQ.

Not saying you are mistaken, I just found that interesting if it is indeed true. Jeep used the 46RH until '96 as well (when they converted to OBD II), but started using the 42RE after the first quarter of ZJ production in 1993. You would think if a Grand Cherokee (built very similar to 2nd gen rams, kinda like a little brother) had the 42RE, Dodge would have been using it as well (although the 242 I6 and 3.9L Magnum have different bell housing bolt patterns, so I suppose it isn't too far fetched).

Dave
I went to the Dodge parts counter and gave them my VIN and they gave me the build sheet just like you said.
I had no doubt that I had a 46RE as you all told me that.
It was still nice to see it on the build sheet...along with all the other information.
It's kind of surprizing to see Dodge put a 46RE in a half ton as the GVW for a half ton is 7000 pounds. The 42RE is rated at 7800 pounds. The 46RE is rated at 14,000 pounds.

Question Pete

I have a 1998 Dakota Sport two drive regular cab with a 3.9 and the automatic transmission. The code plate in the glove box has two codes, DGB and DGK 4 speed automatic transmission. What do these codes mean? Thanks for your time and help.

How does this answer the OP's question which he posted nine years ago? Further, why would anyone come to this thread looking to answer a question UNRELATED to the thread posted thereon?

To get the BEST and most accurate answers ALWAYS start a NEW thread whenever you have a question. NEVER HIJACK another thread else you may NEVER get an answer.
