The ABS Module does rely on the VIN to function at least in the 01 model (like the OP and myself). I Know from previous experience replacing my pcm and will see if I can find it black and white.

Edit: I can't find it specifically where it says it relys on the vin, but it does somehow. Haha, im 99% sure it is caused by vin mismatch, but take the truck somewhere OP to have the abs code read to eliminate the guessing. When I replaced my pcm, abs and brake light came on but the truck ran (same as op). Hell my speedo worked and everything. Went over to the stealership and got the vin programmed and lights went away. I was there when the tech programed it for me. Then cleared all the module codes, and was on my way.

OP, When you get this fixed, please report back with the solution. Thanks!

Give them a ring, it's worth a shot. Good Luck
Yes the donor truck was the same drivetrain as mine (5.9 L v8, 46re, 4wd) Mine is a 2500, donor might have been a 1500, I don't remember.
I know where Van Campen is. I used to live three doors down when I lived in Williamsport (Penn Tech). I'll give them a call Monday.
Thanks everyone for the input.

I called Van Campen on Monday 10/5. They told me they could try to program my vin into used pcm, but there was no gauntee it would work. $75.00 an hour with no assurances it will work doesn't sound good to me, so I'll look at getting a reman pcm somewhere.

Cardone has the ability to pre-program the vin's when you buy a reman. Go over to A&A (where I got mine) and have them set you up. Ball park around 200 for a reman. If you don't get the vin programed, you'll be right back over at van campen paying $75 again. Personally i'd tell them that you want your pcm reflashed with newest updates and use the body vin to get the software. If you can reflash a computer, and you can program a vin into a reman. why wouldn't you be able to change the vin? 75 is there diagnostic rate I think so thats what they put it under. Its a flat rate but again takes 5 minutes to program a vin max.

This is a good topic for those having PCM issues.

I've learned that 94-97 don't need VIN programmed in for a reflash.

98-2002 definitely need VIN programed in for a reflash. Apparently there is like a features/options/check or w/e.

I've seen quite the variable in pricing of PCMs, like $300 delta.

You "think" the bulbs are good? Do they flash when you use the turn signals?

I am hoping to get some help regarding a similar problem. Don't mean to highjack the thread. I switched out my PCM with an identical year PCM 2002 Dodge Dakota 3.9L automatic. Numbers all match on the PCM except the sequence number. It started right up ! Prior to being switched would not crank said no buS. Everything works except now the ABS light blinks non stop same with the chime like the door is open. It's torture driving it without the radio to drown out the chime. I went to OReilly's and had them check for codes. Three came up 82 83 and 84. I will replace the sensor on the rear differential since it will cost me less than $17. But the question is do I need to take it to a Dodge dealership and get raped for 10 minutes of service work ?
