the only difference between the 231d and 231hd is the hd has a six pin planetary if your going to upgrade then go to a 241 out of a 2500 at least almost everything on the 241 is alot stronger including the case. the 231 was originally built for the jeep yj and thats pretty much all they are good for the 231 wasnt originally intended to set behind a v8 trying to lug around 6500 lbs. dont get me wrong the 231 can be built nearly bullet proof and there is even a company that builds stronger cases for them but it just makes more since to get a tcase that was originally built to withstand the load.

Brass bushing? You can slice it in a couple spots with a hacksaw blade, (be careful....) and take it out in pieces. There are rebuild kits that come with EVERYTHING for like 150 bucks. I think bushings are included.

its not a brass bushing, its a steel one. Its in the tailhousing of the transfer case. It worked its way out when I was driving down the road and i put it back in with a piece of 2x4 but it worked its way back out again. Is it pressed in?

The bushing doesn't wanna stay in? Not good..... Is it binding on the slip yoke?

Should just be pressed in..... replacing the entire tailshaft might be a good plan.

I'm located in weatherford 30 min west of fort worth not sure where bay city is if you want this tail housing you can have it it is off a 2000 dodge ram they wont fit on my truck because it is a 95. I also have the output shaft as well if you want it.
