I am having a hard time following this thread but it sounds like you had a later model T-case and you just swapped to a older one. The early 94-97? trucks had a shift pattern of 2H-4H-N-4L the later trucks had 4L-N-2H-4H (from front of truck to back).

The OP hasn't been back since october, so, the thread is rather old, and the guy that bumped it seems to be advertising for some scrapyard or other..... His first post is to resurrect a month old thread.

well i have a question for anyone that can possibly help me. my old transfer case got destroyed and i got my new on im trying to put on right now. but when i put it on it stops befor the studs get the the whole on the trans. i bought the same case 231-D. i did notice a difference. on the shaft that slid over one another on the trans. my old transfer case has shorter dept on the female shaft than my new. my old one i could adjust it. did that long ago but i cant remember./

anyone know what i should do

What did the new case come out of, and was it the same type of trans as yours? (auto/manual) Same year truck? Etc.

You can cut the longer shaft to the same length as the old one, found this post by some one.

"i put a transfer case from a (i think 94'model) in my 99, the only mod was cutting down the shaft that went into the transmission about 1". i used an angel grinder and a fiber wheel hitting it with wd-40 to keep it cool and spinning the yoke continuously to keep a straight cut... i cut it flush with the mounting bolts... u can check the id tags on both transfer cases... best luck , p.s. im no mechanic but the gear ratio is the most important thing to worry about"

im not sure what it came out off i was told a 99 ram 1500 4x4. but i swaped the planetary gearset out with my old one. only difference is the shaft length. put my t-case back together and got back to hauling. so far so good. i thouight bout cutting it but wasnt sure if it would have a negitive effect.

but another things do i use gear oil, or trans fuild. i used trans fuild cause that what i herd. but i alwayz thought gear oil. been running for a weak n so far all is good tho

Trans fluid for the transfer case. The older ones used gear oil.
