Question 95 Transmission Problem

I have a 95 dodge ram 1500 with auto Trans problem. the trucks been setting for five years just got it fixed a week ago the trans works great until the temp go up then every gear go out.(it like you put the truck in neutral) but if you turn truck off and let it cool back down a little it find again until it heat back up. the guy we bought it from said they just changed the fluid in it with new filter but it was setting.

Thank

check the fluid while idling in neutral....

also sounds like you need to do a "Check valve delete"...do a search and theres a write up here on how to do it. VERY simple job.

I've checked the fluid level and it was good but havn't tried to remove valve yet. I been doing some research on it and read about that. Hopefully that would work but it not do you know if a trans out of a v6 dodge ram will interchange with the 318 ram same year

I think the six has a different bellhousing bolt pattern..... and I also think it is a weaker trans than the 46RH you have.

Possibly, they are a common failure point on our trucks.

Yep. However, if the torque converter has disintegrated to that point, you will need to rebuild/replace the trans, as all the crap from the T/C will be distributed nicely throughout the trans.

What would be the best kit to get. I found a master rebuild kit which includes all the plates o-rings and gaskets for 140 and also found a overhaul kit for 43. all this is on rock auto.com also found more online for high performance kit to the basic kits if I rebuild this I want it to last. I probably pull it out this weekend and figure out what all i need to order. also is there and special tool required for this and how do you know how to adjust the bands

Thanks

You plan on rebuilding your trans yourself? You sound like you would be in over your head. Rebuilding a trans isn't like changing your oil. I suggest you get an ATSG manual and read through that. Otherwise get the cheapest kit because it won't last. Not to be an A** but it is just the facts.
