Default Cleaning out the differential

Is there anything that's safe to spray in the rear to clean out all the old oil and junk? I'm replacing my cover and of course changing the gear oil so wanna try to get it all out.

What do you guys use or do you not worry about it?

I just spray it really good with brake cleaner. I have heard of guys using carb cleaner too. I use rags or paper towels to soak stuff up too.

Yep, carb, or brake cleaner work very well, evaporate almost completely, just soak up any puddles, and leave it open for a few minutes, and off ya go.

Mine was actually pretty clean in there. I forget when I had that all replaced but it has held up well.

As others have said, brake clean or carb cleaner. That said, unless you're particularly concerned with the color of your fluid, that couple ounces of residual is not gonna matter one bit. The only time I clean them is if I'm gonna be doing gears or bearings, just because it's a lot easier to deal with parts that aren't slimed in gear lube.

That's ridiculous, you have to take the cover off twice. And buy twice the amount of lube and LS additive.
