Default Can you talk someone down this much?

My budget is $3500.
I talked to a friend today, his budget was $4500 and he found a $6k 03 Ram. He had 4500 cash and laid it on the table, deal or no deal. And he paid 4500 for it.
If I find a Ram for about 5000 or 4500 do you think they will go down to 3500?

Never hurts to ask. Especially cash in hand.

If you can come up with some reasons as to why it is worth the price you want to offer, it may help.

e.g.- look it up on kbb.com, punch in all the options, and see what a reasonabl;e price is. if it agrees with the number you have in mind, it should be good odds of getting to a deal.

Or inspect it thoroughly, make a list of major issues (don't nickel and dime the guy), and request the price be lowered since those will have to be fixed. Especially for safety issues such as brakes.

As others have pointed out, cash is king.

Yep, and you can't just make the offer, you have to SHOW HIM THE CASH..... Its like dangling the nice fat worm in front of the hungry fish.

Go into the deal with the mind set you will not spend any more than you take with you. Be prepared to walk. Most people will come down on price tremendously, especially todays market.

Speaking as a seller the last couple times, keep the seller happy.

The last vehicle I sold, I had more people tell me they would show up, and then never did, or they were late (3 hours in one instance).

The guy that was three hours late showed up (at 10pm) and said he would take it, but he had to get some extra cash from the ATM. 30 minutes later he called back and said he was offering less, I told him no; he never came back, I was ticked off at that point. Had he shown up on time, and offered me what he offered then, I would have probably said yes.

The next guy said he would take it, but had to get his insurance check for his last vehicle (it was in the mail), so I waited, and after I week I sold it from under him for less. The person that got it met me there on time, had the cash the next day at 8am.

Unfortunately it seems that more and more people don't show. If you show, and are serious about it, they will probably take your offer (within reason)
