Jasper replacement rear axle?

Default Jasper replacement rear axle?

I have a 2001 extended cab ram 4X4 with a bad rear differential. I found someone parting out another ram, he said it has a jasper rear from the previous owner. I am looking for opinions on which is better a Dodge or a Jasper

IMHO, since you have to replace the rear end....id just get a complete D60 or 70 rear end, way more durable than the Chrysler 9.25 rear end. and from hearing stories of Jasper trannys, i wouldnt trust it. Ive heard MANY bad things about the Jasper trannys, so i wouldnt trust anything from Jasper.

The Jasper is a Dodge rear end, it's just rebuilt by Jasper. It will be a direct swap. Putting a D60 in will not be a direct swap.

BTW, it would be nice to know if you have a 1500 or 2500.

welcome to df. fill out your signature and location stuff when you get a chance.

i guess its possible that it has a jasper rear end, but i doubt it. reason being is that unlike a ford or toyota where anybody can buy and installed an already setup ring/pinion, the dodge and dana has to be setup in the axle. this would imply that they bought a complete axle assy from jasper. possible but unlikely. most shops would just rebuild the failure, or get a junkyard replacement. more likely is that he has a jasper transmission and is just confused.

complete rear ends are pretty common in junkyards for around 300-350 or less.

+1 on what zman said - since yours is 4wd, make sure the gear ratio is the same as yours.

edit - according to that web site, a 9.25 is $2119 + 50 for a skid.
i'm not sure if that includes installation or not.

that's a damned expensive rear end.
