i found a 2 way, 4 position solenoid that I think I should be able to hook up to a switch inside the cab somewhere. it's only $45 for the solenoid, and then about $10 for a nice lighted on/off switch.

Unless you want to be able to disengage the front axle, you don't really need the solenoid. If you do want that capability, you will need a three port, (at least) that switches source vacuum (port one) to either of the other two ports, as the actuator does not have a spring to disengage the axle.... it uses vacuum to move in either direction.

sorry to be a post ***** here, but couldn't i just slide the shift fork over to lock the CAD and find a way to keep it locked? Not all Dodge trucks have the CAD, so wouldn't it basically just function like a new Dodge without it?

Yep. Shore could. Either shuffle the e-clips around to hold the fork where you want it, or, install a spring of some sort, to keep it pressed to the engaged position, or, just run a vacuum line from the original source for the switch that used to be on the t-case, to the side of the actuator that locks the front axle.

Not sure which way would be best, but, running the vacuum line would be easiest.

I think the vacuum supply line to the transfer case switch is the white plastic line. It should hit the vacuum bag o' snakes right by the firewall, on the passenger side. Probably not going to be easy to see. Run that line to the inboard port on the CAD, and run a vent line from the outboard port, to someplace fairly high up. Should be golden.
