Default No O/D with new T-Case

Ok, now i got anther problem.

i replaced the t-case and i have no speedo. and with no speedo i have no O/D, i get a CEL with code #15 everytime i hit the o/d button saying theres no signal to speed sensor.

Now i have a 98 transfer case in the truck. everything is identical to my 95 t-case. the speed sensors have the same part numbers, but the one thats in the 98 t-case doesnt have the right electrical hook up. Its smaller than the 95 hook up. So i have the 95 speed sensor in, and theres nothing.

Dealer told me that with the 98's they dont record the speed from that location. I found this odd, since both t-cases had the same speed sensor (except for electric connector) so how could this not be recording the speed? where else would it record speed?

Now am i going to have to get a different T-case? or try a new speed sensor? they told me the t-cases are compatible though, but the speed sensor is different in the 98's.

Should i cut the hook up out of a 98 and wire that in so the 98 speed sensor can fit?

For the 95 the speedo sensor runs off of the plastic gears in the back of the t-case. For the 98 (I believe) it is an OBDII and pulls the signal either differently or off of the rear pumpkin. I'm not sure if you can swap the back of the t-cases so you get your speedo gears back. I'm pretty sure you cannot go splicing wires.

Even if the 98 pulls speed off the pumpkin, swapping in the 95 gear/plug should work with your PCM.

Did you compare the gears to make sure they had the same cut? Can you look in and see if the 98 case drive gear is stripped?

Also see if the gear in the T/C turns freely on the shaft (it shouldn't.).... I have seen them stripped internally... which would cause exactly what you are experiencing.

Neither do I.....

Just out of idle curiosity.... can you turn on the ignition, and spin the gear in the sensor by hand, and make the speedo do anything?

Check out this link, Have a look at changing the speedo gears, you might just be not meshing the gears rite. something to check.

This would be my guess as well. Unless you hammered the wiring or sensor itself during the swap.
