That's the trouble with horsepower... it costs too much.

Best thing you can do for your truck, is make sure everything is up to snuff in the ignition/fuel supply department. (fresh tuneup, good fuel pressure, fix the plenum if its blown.) A high flow air filter, or, more efficient air intake certainly wouldn't hurt you either.

1.7 roller rockers should give a nice boost, and not require a custom tune. (make sure you have the valve clearance to do this before spending money on it though.)

SCT Tuner would most certainly help you. Given the year of your truck, chances are VERY good that you have the Death Flash. (do a search in the FAQ section, Death Flash is very well explained in there.) It would also get rid of torque management. That right there makes it worth the 275 bucks it costs. PM Hemifever on this site to get one.

Freer flowing exhaust would be right up there on the list as well. Headers, high-flow cats, (no cats??) and 2 1/4, or 2 1/2 inch duals wouldn't hurt ya none.

There really isn't much you can scavenge from the scrapyard for performance on these trucks. Unless you get REALLY lucky.

How much difference is there between the 360 and 318? I have a 360 in my 2500 4x4 now and it's pretty well shot. I picked up a 318 w/50k miles to replace it but now I'm not to sure that's such a good idea. The truck id s d/d and I use it to pull my bug and trailer once or twice a year.

So it shouldn't be real noticeable considering I'm used to a worn out 360? My immediate plans for the 318 will of coarse be the plenum fix and the tuner from Hemifever.

Just use all the sensors, manifolds, and such from the 360, and with the addition of a tuner for the correct size motor.... you should be golden.

I did a search on the FAQ for death flash and it didn't come up... i also searched in the forums but only came up with lengthy explanations of why i shouldn't ask about it on the forums.... dare i ask?

I was thinking of getting some heads from a junkyard and taking them to a machine shop(318 heads). Was hoping to get bigger valves and ported. I dont really have the money to get 1200 dollar heads from hughes and whatnot. And planning on boring 40 over. Would I need to get 360 heads for this or can they be machined for that? And would I get a noticeable gain? Dont know much about valvetrain area and would like to know more. I been searching aroud and found info that contradicts what is said on another website and vice versa. Anyone know any good sites where i can read and find out alot about cams and heads?
