Default Clicking sound in dash and cab light flickering on/off

1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9

So when I ride down my dirt road I get this intermittent clicking sound coming from around the steering column. I also noticed that the cab light cuts on/off with the clicking sounds.

It sounds like some sort of solenoid engaging.

Thoughts??

Pull the covers off of the steering column, and see if some wires aren't pulling out of the multifunction switch.

+1,,, and maybe one of the door jamb switches is bad. Also take the headlight switch out and unplug it and check it, and the plug itself for melting.

OK guys I got a little sidetracked with a leaky cv shaft on a Saturn Vue.

So the clicking issue has escalated to the point where the motor wont start. For example - I turn the key to start all the lights on the dash come on then nothing. No click from starter solenoid. I let it sit. Try again truck starts up. Also noticed tonite when it clicks the green light around the keyhole flickers on/off green.

Check your battery cables, make sure they are all clean, and tight. Shuffle relays around in the PDC, most of them are exactly the same.... the two you are concerned about testing are the ASD relay, and the Starter relay.

Hey thanks,

Excuse my ignorance but what does PDC stand for and where is it?

Thanks!

Power distribution center. Its under the hood, on the drivers side wheel well. Pull the cover off, and it will have a key as to way everything in there is. Just swap the starter relay with the headlight relay, or wiper relay.... see if that improves its attitude. If it does, just buy a new relay.

Tested both the starter and asd relays and they were within specifications.

The clicking is definately coming from what seems like the steering column.

Again this morning. Go to crank up nothin. Try again a few seconds later, cranks right up. I going to look at the wire diagram to see whats between the ignition switch and the starter relay. Its weird that it coincides with the courtesy lights coming on and off even though the door is shut.
