Default Thinking Of Tackling The Plenum

So does the hughes kit totally eliminate the problem? also is this the "keg kit" everyone talks about. heres what i was looking at,

http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...p?partid=26190

anything else i should get? My valve cover gaskets are leaking so i was thinking of doing those when i do, anything else though,
- I'm aware of the shipping errors of Hughes-

I got that kit. The gasket kit that came with it had two of those curved rubber gaskets rather than one curved, one strait. I ended up purchasing a second gasket kit. I had to request a refund for the kit Hughes sent me. They made things right without too much difficulty.

I ended up going with the Fel-pro gasket. It looked much more substantial than the gasket in the Victor Reintz kit Hughes sent.

I'd recommend the plenum plate from Hughes, but go to a part store and get the Fel-pro gasket kit.

Aaron,
Some say all 2nd gen Ram will have the blown plenum gasket. I did the test and the test showed it should be intact (according to the vaccuum / pressure gauge). Based on advice from those "in the know", I went ahead and changed it out. It was, in fact, perfectly intact.

That being said, you have to go with the odds. Ram mechanics claim it's a huge weakness in the engine. It's worth several hours of your time and about $100 for peace of mind. If it is blown, or blows in the near future, problems with your catalytic converter and O2 sensors will start (not to mention bad MPG and no HP).

Do your fluid changes and look into that plenum fix. Just my opinion....

The first one. comes with all the gaskets you need. Also get new intake manifold bolts. They are NOT re-usable.

Have Hughes send you the bolts for the plate as well.....

My Hughes kit will be here Tuesday. How hard is it to install? I'm not to confident I can do it. I have changed the air filter, brakes, thermostat and plugs but thats about it. Im thinking of bringing it to a mechanic to do it how much would a mechanic charge?? I probably be willing to pay a couple hundred but not much more than that but then again I dont want to try it myself and jack it up

Its really not that bad of a job. Biggest problem I had was the front two intake manifold bolts broke, and they were a bit of a drag to extract.

Paying a shop to do it.... you are looking at at LEAST 4 hours.... probably more. So, multiply that by labor rate...... gets expensive quick.
