be sure and use ATF+4 or whatever your recommended fluid is for your 94. +4 replaced +3 and the other number??, something like 71xx??
put in a drain plug while you have the pan off. Dorman 65241. i put my plug in the bottom, but on a buddies we put it on the side so nothing could hit it. it doesn't have to drain all the fluid out, just most of it. be careful of placement not to hit any internals.
the way i drain one w/o a plug is to loosen the pan bolts until it starts running out everywhere, then let it drain awhile to drop the fluid level down to the pan seam. then slide a floor jack under it and put just a little tension on it. remove the rest of the pan bolts, then with several hands, lower the jack while balancing the pan. other methods are prone to bending the lip of the pan.
when the pan is off, place it upside down on a piece of wood and make sure the bolt holes are not indented. if so, hit each one with a hammer to flatten it back out.

While you have the pan down, check all the wiring harnesses in there for worn/broken wires. Some have a tendency to rub the insulation off, and short to the metal parts.
Pay attention to what's in the bottom of the pan as well.
