Angry Installed the hughes plenum repair kit and I believe I failed

Did the the hughes plenum repair, along with some other things. Well I got the everything installed and put back together. Truck started up great ran it at idle for a bit while i added some more coolant. I drove the truck around the block, still runing good. When i got back i left it idle for another 10 minutes then i was just about to head out and when I started driving away the truck started popping when I got on the gas. Went back to the garage popped the hood and noticed that she was leaking coolant. I can see coolant pooled above behind the water pump. I looked and it is not cooming from the bypass hose (new) or the upper radiator hose to t-stat pipe. Also looked dry from t-stat pipe to plenum where gasket is. I belive it is coming from between plenum and head, which really sucks. Does that sound about right? As far as the popping im not quite sure. Boy does is suck doing things twice. I suppose I will learn from my mistakes.

check the torque on your intake bolts. follow the proper torque sequence.

check your oil too.. if it's mixed in the crankcase but not the cooling system it's most likely you either didn't get the gasket on there straight, or as DV said, you didn't get a good torque..

you didn't re-use the bolts did you?

Used new plenum bolts, and I did the proper torque sequence ending with 12 ft lbs. I am going to try and pinpoint the leak tomorrom before I go buck wild and tear it apart again.

I would think the front bolts on the intake lost torque or the heads weren't scraped clean enough around the coolant passages before the install.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. At least you will be a plenum expert if you have to do it again. Like others said, I'd retorque the intake bolts. Hell, I'd overtorque them a tad (maybe 14 ft pounds) if I had too. Not recommending you do that....but I would before I tore it all apart again. If that doesn't work, back in ya go. Good luck.

And don't forget, if you DO yank it all apart again, you will need new intake manifold bolts..... Gotta love TTY bolts.... or not.....

I would check the torque before taking it back apart.
I would also check the oil for coolant while the hood was up.

so would I. worst that can happen is to break a bolt and have to redo it...

did you put the intake manifold gaskets on the right way? you CAN put them on backwards and cover the coolant passage.
