408
what kind of mileage will a 408 get? and is it better to buy one already built like i saw one on precisionengine.com or get a stroker kit and build one. how difficult is it to get the flash done also. and is that all you need done. thanks
You can get a tune for your engine from Hemifever for around 375, with unlimited tweaks. (he will require a fair bit of info from you, and to really dial it in, he will need logs with a wideband A/F ratio meter)
"better"? Is really subjective. Buying one already built is certainly easier, especially if you can customize it a bit for what you have in mind. (towing, mud racing, whathaveyou)
Mileage? Don't even ask. You won't like the answer. ("Bad" comes to mind though.

With a good tune you have the potential to get the same mileage.
With a good tune you have the potential to get 3mpg also
Advantage of having one pre built, you yank your 360, drop in the new 408.
As Hey you says, you can order it as you need/want it.
As long as the shop is trustworthy & has a good rep shouldnt be any problems.
If there are problems you at least have some possible recourse to fix it.
Building your own, screw it up, your on your own dime
Building it yourself you have pride of what you accomplished or will be kicking yourself for over estimating your abilities lol
With a 408 your going to need a beefied up trans.
Depending on how big the 408 is built may need pretty well everything upgraded in the trans including torque convertor.
Will also need a new tune regardless of how big/small a 408 you get.
May require fuel system upgrade as well (better pump &/or injectors)
Basic build, shift kit, deep pan with trans temp gauge & extra cooler may suffice the trans

Actually, when you start getting into those kind of mods, its all about the same. Either way you will need a custom tune for it to run right. Granted, the high horse 360 would prolly be cheaper.... if that is even a consideration.
