I have no idea if they over heated the engine. I will be removing both heads and rebuilt them. I will not mess too much with the bottom end cause I do not feel capable of doing so.

I saw the rocker arm got penetrated by the push rod on that particular one thats out of place. I will be buying a new rocker arm and push rod just to be sure.

didnt notice that till you said it......what about the valve? you could take off the exhaust manifold if you get lucky and dont break any studs doing so and check the valve by looking in the chamber i noticed when i did this to mine i had a little oil on the the valve stem so valve stem seals in the future................actually if you have the time to work on this and not your dd , i would tear it all down and replace valvetrain and look at the timing chain ,pull oil pan and inspect replace oil pump and clean clean clean!

yeah, I got my own dd. this is my parents truck (that serves as a secondary vehicle) so I got time. I'll probably do what you mentioned.
Parts will be around $300 without replacing all the valves.
Is there a how to in this site for the timing chain?

visually u cant see the valves with the exception of the stem poking out the top of the valve spring, however the compression test will let you know if the rings are gone or if its a valve, do the compression test twice once with squirting oil into the cylinder, this will show you compression with sealed rings, if it shows no pressure chances are you have a bad valve. you will have a total of two readings. #1 original comp. #2 oil comp you know if you are going this far with over 150k in miles why not just do a valve job and replace worn and or broken parts. if it is an emergency truck, you need it to be reliable for your folks, and put it on a service maint schedual for cryin out loud!

its too late to do a compression test. I already remove various components.
I will however remove both heads and inspect the valves myself.

Check that lifter out while your in there. I suspect that that lifter is clogged with junk from that motor and that it was not pumping oil up to the rocker. This caused the pushrod to wear through the rocker. If that is what what happened you should remove and clean all the lifters as they are likely in poor shape too. Remember that all valve train components must go back into the motor the exact way and spot they came out.

If the lifter is not plugged check the oil passage to the lifter as this could also be plugged.

wil do mate.

Update:
Remove both valve covers
Removed all rockers, push rods and compontents attached to heads

Tomorrow:
Remove both exhaust manifolds
Unbolt both heads and take them to the shop

While the heads are getting worked on, I will be cleaning the engine. Lifters included!

Thanks for your support guys!
