Default 360 for torque and mileage?

gotta 1/2 ton with 318 5 speed and in the move to tow a little more or at least have the ability to without pushin the motor.
so have two ya thats right two 360's in the shop to work from. what would be suggestions of puting this project to the pavement.
am currently working over the 2001 keg. polish-port and custom plenom plate. did i mention i own a machine shop?
what would you do?
my curent truck is a daily driver so want to create a plug and play in the shop, then stick it in. belts to clutch will be new.

thanks

Have you considered stroking one of those 360's to 408? Those are supposed to be stump pullers. Other then that, i'd get a Cummins if I wanted to do serious towing.

woops, am only towing 6500 prob max. believe it or not the 318 does a reasonable job at this. I just dont like pushing it. a little over kill in my thinking will last a little longer.
408 is a bit o money for rotating assy. but if it will pull a slight bit better than the 318, get better gas mileage and pass emissions im game. not likely. thanks tho.

that sounds like a good direction. do you pull mountains with yours fully loaded? hows the water pump keep up. any charge probs?
was already thinking electric fans, but now I have to wonder on the alternator?.

There are 136 amp alternators available... should be more than adequate to the task.

What year is your truck? An SCT tune from Hemifever would probably make a WORLD of difference if it 00-01.... and certainly help on the older trucks. You can PM him right here on this website.

prob need to work over me profile huh. sorry. is a 98 bone stock 318 quad 4x4. oh and dont generally use to 4x4 except in snow and backin into nice wooded spots off logging roads.
135 amp should surely do the trick but is that under driven amps or stock? dont know exacly how that works but seems there has to be some loss per gain. newtons law?

That is rated output for stock pulleys. Most underdrive pulleys come in sets, crank pulley, and a correspondingly smaller alt pulley as well..... You get the power gain from not turning the water pump, a/c compressor, and power steering pump quite as quickly. Besides, it would only really be a problem at idle, I think most alts can deliver full output as low as 1200 crank RPM...... possibly even lower.

oh will be puting some kinda electronic tune to the 360 as I dont think the computer for the 318 is gonna get me what i want. what i am striving for is very capable and efficient mechanical, will dial the computer to work with the equipment.
thats the plan any way.
