Well, had a wheelbearing let go tonight
So the wife and I were on the way home from christmas shopping tonight, we were just driving along and felt a little jolt, almost felt like I ran over something. Everything felt fine though so I shrugged it off. It wasn't until about 10 miles later when I had to slow down to go around a car pulling over that I felt and heard grinding. I thought it was a u joint goin out but after pulling off onto a small driveway and checkin it out, I found a pile of bearing rollers sitting on the steering knuckle.......
I've never had one come apart that bad before, and it gave me no warning that it was going either. My brakes started coming and going too, what's up with that? I left it there and got dad to come get us, we're gonna go get it tomorrow and I'll know more about what's toast....
SO, we'll probably be getting a dolly, what's the best way to tow this old green beast? It's trans in park, t-case in neutral, right? Or would it be better to pull the driveshaft?

Flat bed is always best . I guess you won't be coming up the road to fix my backfire for a while then . I might be able to get you a good price on wheel bearings if need be....I have some connections.
PS - Have you done your plenum yet ? I will have a spare pretty soon if your interested. I also have a set of 3.55 gears if you know anyone looking for a replacement .

Pacman, I may be very interested in that plenum.... Does it have EGR? And what size axle are those 3.55's out of? Not a Dana 60 by any chance I suppose? My buddy has an 01 2500 and he chewed the rearend up in it. He couldn't find one anywheres around here so he's got it welded up ATM but he says it's a bitch to drive lol.... I imagine yours are out of a 9 1/4 rear though eh?
what can you get bearings for down there? Best price up here in Freddy is ~120-140 with 1 year warranty at (of all places) a Ford dealership.....

Gears are out of my truck , so Dana 44 and corporate 9.25 . I can check on a price for those bearings for you monday if you would like . The plenum does have the egr....i cut the egr out of my spare and I'm gonna plug it inside with a tig . I could do the same with the other if you are interested .
Can't do that with our trucks, in neutral, the transfer case is disengaged from the trans, but, front and rear are still locked together.

So what are you saying? That it can't be towed with t-case in neutral? Do I have to pull the driveshaft out?

Ya I figured the gears were probably from your 1500.... So what do ya want for that plenum? I won't be doing it til after christmas at least but if ya wanna hang onto it I'll probably take it when I get the rest of the stuff to do it... I wouldn't worry too much about the bearing, I'll probably have to pick one up on Monday anyways.... Wouldn't hurt to know I guess though.... Thanks man!
