Oil Pan
I got the truck in January, changed the oil then using Valvoline 10-40 along with a qt of Rislone. I've changed the oil twice since then usong the same procedure. I have used Rislone for 30 years at least. However, I also suspect that since the truck was used for a business by the PO, that it was at least maintained well, mechanically anyway.
I wish I was as clean right now, LOL. I just got done filling it with oil(thought I would let the black rtv set in the corners for a few hours ). No leaks running and sitting in the garage. We will see what tomorrow brings when I get to the job site. LOL
thats impressivly clean! thats clean as any ive seen so far on here hmmmmmm i know mine wasnt that clean after using royal purple and castrol edge with k&n filters every 3 k!!!!! looks to good!

Mine was that clean when I took the pan off. It surprised me a little because the valve train, timing cover and valley all had that baked on sludge in them.
Did the tranny cooler lines give you a fuss when you put the new pan on? Mine did. I also felt uncomfortable with the rear of the oil pan gasket because the pan doesn't have a groove in it and I was concerned that it would get a little cockeyed and not sit in the groove on the block like it should.

I live in mississippi, have never seen an oil pan rust through...of course I've never seen road salt in mississippi either. But I know the remedy. Do a really crappy job of putting the pan gasket back on. That way, it'll leak oil and never rust. Zman, if you had more time I mightve been able to come up with a pan, I work at a scrap yard, but no 2nd gens right now. Haven't seen many since cash 4 clunkers. We had 8 or 10 when that was going on. I miss it. Lol. Wonder if the do it yourself bedliner (duplicolor, etc) would work for coating it? I've never used it myself.

Here is a pic of the inside of motor before I scraped and cleaned the gasket surface. I'll take pics of the pan itself tomorrow when I'm not so aggravated after putting the new one on! I don't think I will ever have to use conditioner in my hair(whats left of it) for the rest of my life. LOL

No wonder you're having problems. The engine is mounted sideways.
