Which one did you buy? I've been drooling over the one mowhawk has on here but can't justify the cost right now. Maybe when I get my taxes back this spring...

the one in the pic

I drive a third gen, but an '02 w/ 5.9L.. I spend more time here because of that.. that, and the 3rd gen board is but a shadow of this one imHo..

This dang truck is killin' me.. I decided to fix it up the way I want it instead of buying a new one (sticker price on a new one tried to kill me NOT figuratively).. I'm going to have to respectfully request a moderator to permanently ban me from this site.. I keep finding stuff to do to this rig..

I nailed down a Rough Country 5" suspension lift this week, complete and delivered w/ shocks, boots, and plate for silly cheap, and have an appointment to get it installed pending.. The borg shaft and rock solid steering is going on at the same time as well..

The air-gap and hopefully new injectors go on tomorrow (if the injectors arrive), and then the hood next week..

I have a totally off subject question: Do 'yall think I should get the hood painted OFF the truck or ON? If it's painted OFF, I can allow it to cure before install, if it's painted ON, I stand a better chance of getting a perfect color match.. I don't have the luxury of either/or as this is my DD..

If I bought a hood for 1200 bucks, I would be dead very shortly thereafter. I didn't pay much more than that for the whole truck......

Paint the hood OFF the truck. Easier that way, and also the reasons you mentioned.

With five inches of lift, I don't think a pitman brace would be such a bad plan either.

I fired my CFO a few years ago, and sent her packing out west somewhere.. I live the life of a teenager at 38, and answer only to me... and my dog.. but even she can really be a biyatch sometimes..

I'm aiming for 5 more years with this truck, which has been paid off for four years.. Every month I either make a payment to myself equiv to what the payments were, or I sink that money into doing something to the truck.. The long term plan is to stretch this one past what I expected to get out of it, and have enough in my 'payment' savings to buy a new one outright.. I'm starting to think I'll just keep this one and buy a gas sipping economy car instead though at this point..

Not having to answer to a CFO/CEO/Wife/Raging tawhat gives me all kinds of opportunity to do what I want- which lately has been scour for deals- That hood lists anywhere from $650 (basic, no paint) to $1500 (painted and air-raid air box included).. I found it gel-coated, primed(x2) and wet sanded (x2) for $400 delivered to my door.. I jumped on it, well, because I got a chubby for it..

I also found something last night I can likely dig up if anyone is interested: a MPFI air-gap look alike for $400, and a four barrel MPFI air-gap look alike for $600.. They're out there, and there are tons of more deals if you look hard...

All that said, if my CFO was still here, I would be wearing my lower sphincter for a necklace right about now..

You better be posting some pics of this rig. Should look really mean with a 5" lift. What kind of wheels/tires will you be running?

I only wish I could go to work everyday, and collect a real paycheck. I could make a HELL of a lot more money as a network admin, than I do as a chair potato. I also am not quite capable of living on my own..... there are too many things I just can't do anymore. Technically, one of them is: Work on my truck. However.... I can't afford to pay anyone else to do it, so.... I do what I have to. Just takes me a LOT longer than it used to. I would go broke working flat rate as a wrench monkey. And I used to make good money doing that too, but, got tired of michigan winters dripping down my back. I wanted a job where I worked on small, light, CLEAN stuff, that NEVER saw a michigan winter, so, went into computers. That's been a while ago.

Did heavy trucks for a while, but, I HATED that. If the PARTS weren't huge and heavy, the TOOLS to take them off WERE..... Can't win for losin'.

Perhaps I oversimplify matters once again but, I was thinking I would make my own scoop out if sheetmetal and cutting a hole in my current hood. It probably would not have nice rounded lines but I envision it as having 2 parts: The actual hood scoop on top with a cowel/heat shield under the hood to direct the air to the 14x3. Paint it to match (in my case I'd probably paint it black to go with the grill guard and defelctors). I would use some kind of fancy bolts that I can use in other conspicuous places on the body to tie them into the overall look.

Of course there would have to be some kind of gasket between the parts, a screen over the front and perhaps some kind of drip tube to channel water.

Of course I feel like I am missing something basic... along the "d'uh" line.

I was considering something along these lines..... I saw another truck the the owner had sliced the sheet metal, raised it up, and then cut "filler" panels with the shape he wanted the scoop to have. I am just somewhat reluctant to start cutting on my hood. (that, and I suck at body work.)

It does provide a nice cool charge of cool air so it is effective. It just costs quite a bit of change.
This is completely sealed off except for the incoming air am I right?
