The idea behind "Ram Air" is..... collect your incoming air from some high pressure point on the truck, be it the base of the windshield, or, using the trucks forward movement to 'compress' the incoming air charge, via a scoop, or whathaveyou. Some methods are far more effective than others. The one pictured there will have minimum Ram effect, but, it should still flow better than stock..... which is where most of the gains come from anyway.

Its not like you are actually going to get "Boost" (above atmospheric pressure) in the intake tract JUST from using some ram air system. But, it DOES allow the engine to inhale more air than the average run of the mill (stock) intake. (it WILL raise pressure (reduce vacuum?) in the intake, but, you won't see positive pressure, like you would with a turbo, or some manner of supercharger)

In all reality, most of the benefit of ANY ram air system is, you are actually getting COLD (ambient temp) air, and not air warmed in the engine compartment.

Yep, but, the other opening to the fender is not sealed, so, any 'overpressure' that could possibly develop, would go out that way. Unless they have some provision to prevent it?

Ok... anyone have a DIY hood scoop ram air link?
I know there is a member with a scoop (looks homemade) that he said lead right to his filter. I shall go find him now!

I found him... Mowhawk. Said he has a "14x3 with a direct setup to hood scoop". Nice looking truck. It's under the CAI poll thread.

I have to think about it. I am not big into "singing it" unless I can "bring it"... I suppose making my truck look like something it's not just sets me up for disappointment. Besides, I have always liked "sleepers".

My furnace just crapped the bed (hole in the heat exchanger) so that will be putting a big hit on my truck fund. Crap happens.

synthetic oil in my '96 ram 5.2 4x4 made a big difference.changed all the fluids to synthetic and installed a k+n air filter.saw a gain of about 60 km per tank.

Hey guys.. haha sorry im late to the party. School and AF has been killing me. Plus ive been hanging out on my bike forum mostly now-a-days.

As far as my hood goes.. its not homebrew. Its from keystone restyling and there are kits on the net that allow you to set up your hood to an enclosed 14x3 setup.
http://www.ramairbox.com/index.html
I pretty much used the kits from that site and made it work for my ram. They have everything you need. Plus theres a connection that comes with the hood.
