Default cold weather and door latches

Hey guys, here is a question for those of you who also live in cold climates.

When it is very cold out, around -40 or so, the doors are VERY hard to close, you have to slam them so hard I am worried I will end up shattering the window. I am assuming that it's just because of the lubricant in the latches freezing up and being way too stiff/sticky when it's that cold so it can't move properly.

Does anyone else have the same problem? Have you found a solution? I have been thinking of maybe trying some kind of dry lubricant which I really don't know much about, but am open to any other suggestions.

Eb.

Actually, that's what I was gonna recommend. Some dry lube. Saturate all your hinges and your latches and get back to us. If it doesn't work, well then your only out 4 bucks.

Ok I'll give that a try if I can figure out how to get the old sticky junk cleaned out of it. Then I will wait for a nice cold day to test it.

I know what you mean Josh, my old Nissan used to suffer from the old "square tire syndrome" until I drove a few blocks to warm the tires enough to get rid of that flat spot. I haven't really noticed it on the Dodge though...

If you have access to an air compressor, that should help get the old stuff out.
I think they sell the graphite lube as a dry spray.

On a related note (I don't see the need for a new thread.), does anyone have any suggestions to keep the doors from freezing closed?

Northern BC.

As for doors freezing shut, it's usually caused by water freezing the weatherstripping on the door to the truck. Maybe a thin coat of some kind of lubricant that the ice would not stick to as well? I have been meaning to try something for that myself actually.
