Default Hello Guys - Newbie here with questions....

I'm new here - first posting Maybe you can help me. How fast is it safe to engage transfer case?? And secondly, I can barely get any heat up either in engine & therefore to cab. New thermostat last winter - no luck. Tried blocking off part of rad, no luck now all of rad, still no luck. Any ideas?? Thanks, guys!!

According to popular theory.... you can engage 4wd up to 55mph.... I would take that with a grain of salt though.....

Change your thermostat again. I don't have anything blocking my radiator, (and it is colder than a ****** heart here...) and my engine still gets up to temp without any trouble. Test the new one before installation.

The user manual in my glove box says 55mph for 4hi, 3mph for 4lo.

The 231d transfer case is a "shift on the fly" transfer case so it is designed to shift while you're in gear and moving (or stopped if it makes you feel more comfortable).

It actually shifts easier if you are moving and NOT on the brake. I usually roll along at single digit speeds, and don't have any issues.

I just pulled mine into 4 today at about 80km/h (50 mph) with no issues.... Mine says ok up to 90, which would be 55. It is better for them to be moving when you engage it anyways. If I'm stopped and do it, I put it in neutral, pull the stick, and pop it in reverse for a sec til the light comes on. I also throw it in reverse when I disengage it if I'm stopped...

If axle is engaged, t-case can be switched at just about any speed. Drive line is already spinning at speed. But no matter what I shift in to 4h at just a roll then go. I have a bad habit of rolling back a few feet while disengaging. From the ol jeep days. as far as heat in the cab. while installing your new t-stat, I would pull a line off going to the heater core and give it the garden hose flush. If lots of crusty stuff comes out time for a flush. I use this acid flush from Permatex at the shop. Its crazy stuff ,so if used read the directions.

When I shift while stopped I normally have to go into reverse then back to drive before it will engage, I think that's because the splines aren't lined up in the CAD unit. I'm normally on a hill and have already spun the tires before I put it in 4x4 so I don't want to shift and hit the gas to engage it so the shift collar won't bang when it engages.
