Factory service manual. Look in the FAQ section here. See if that helps.

wow! i didnt realize that it was so in-depth...

looks like you just pull the rear cover off, take off a snap ring and the sproket and chain come right out, p.2460. or is there more to it?

There's the gear sets in there for lo range, and the shift mechanism, but yeah, that's basically it. Drop it out, rip it apart, see what you need, get parts, fix it, put it back. Take a VERY good look at the case itself though..... when they go, they tend to take the casing with 'em.

It's not that easy! The front output shaft flange needs to come off also, so you can slide the shaft back to get the chain on. I suggest you take the TC out of the truck, takes an hour or so. This way you can work on it on a bench.

yea i saw that in the service manual.

i plan to get the T-case saver and fork pads as well

any minor details that i need to be careful about, other than directly following the service manual?

yea removing it from the truck does sound like a very good idea

i was under the impression that some trans RTV (bad luck with ultra black) would do the trick for everything including the case halves. what requires an actual seal instead of RTV?
