Get that atf 3 out of it now, it will kill hte trans....you are supposed to put in atf4, its a fully synthetic fluid. ATF 3 WILL KILL YOUR TRANS

Did you put Dextron 3 in there, or ATF+3 made by Dextron? They are not the same thing (not sure if the latter even exists).

The manual, IIRC, states you can use it for emergencies only, when proper ATF+3 (or ATF+4 in later model years) is not available. ATF+4 is better than ATF+3, and is the only fluid that Chrysler transmissions like. Anything else, given a short period of time, will ruin your tranny. Unfortunately, you're going to have to flush it, I'm afraid, to get all that junk out of there. Your transmission sounds like its already having issues, so you really have nothing left to lose, IMO.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'd start doing research on reputable transmission shops for a rebuild.

my transmission did the same thing, would not shift into 3rd, went to neutral and back to drive, worked and drove fine for about 20 miles. the od off light came on, then seconds later the trans temp light came on, by the time i was able to get off the freeway i had lost 3rd and 4th gear, with fluid pouring out of the bell housing. needless to say it was done

Supertech ATF+4 will work from wal-mart, just as long as its ATF+4, and the difference is ATF+4 is a fully synthetic fluid.compared to ATF3 which is like conventional.
