No offense to the OP, but you'll never get back out of a truck what you put into it if you have it for any decent length of time. Unless you have a classic car, vehicles will always depreciate. If it had all these problems when you first brought it home, perhaps you didn't inspect it or look it over close enough before you bought it. The only problem I've had with my truck has been a blown plenum, water pump, and a few u-joints/ball joints. Had it for almost four years now.

GMCs usually fall apart just as badly or worse than Chrysler products, in my experience. However, I hope you got lucky and picked a good unit this time. Good luck to you, sir.

I did check it all over when I bought the truck...it never leaked any fluids. When something needed fixed it got fixed. I didnt know about all of the "common" problems withthe 2nd gens before I bought it...but I definately paid for not doing my research. I realize every vehicle has its problems that are common, but hopefully GM can do me better than Dodge. Plus, I will be so happy getting over 13 mpg!!!

Shoot me a PM if you guys want stuff. All would be best offers..but I wont take $20 for the SCT or some BS offer... We can figure out shipping also...

Also, the Dodge always got me where I needed to go when I needed to go, besides when the tranny grenaded...but $3500 later, it went on again. Was not interested in anymore money being dumped into it.... To each their own

I don't really blame you at all for making that decision if you were having problems with it. No point in keeping something if its just going to keep your wallet empty. However, can't say I agree with moving onto a GMC. They are great riding trucks and very comfortable, but I hope you don't plan on using it as a "truck" as they usually are the weakest of the big 3.

Get back on here after running a few tanks of gas through it, I would like to see what a 2 wheeler GMC gets for mileage. My friends 01 4x4 quad cab (extended/crew, whatever it's called) with a 5.3l vortec was getting about 16mpg.

Wow... I guess my expectations are low. I bought my truck with the expectation of dumping WAY more money into it than I would ever be able to get back. Barring an accident like what happened to my jeep, I plan to have it for many, many years.

The 2nd Gen Rams have always been my favorite for styling. A close 2nd are the mid to late 90's Z71's.

I fell into the same trap..... I was actually LOOKING for a GM product when I found the dodge. I didn't know squat about them at the time, and didn't do any research before I bought it....... I took it for a test drive, some problems were obvious, but, I knew they would be cheap fixes. Others... well, not so much so. I got what I thought at the time was a good price for it, but, in retrospect, I paid too much. Had I done my homework, I could have gotten it for a LOT less.

Oh well. Live and learn. Overall, I am still pretty happy with it. (dillweeds that throw stuff down the engine aside....)

It will only be used to tow a small motorcycle trailer/pop up camper every once in awhile. Other than that, just a dirt bike in the bed.

My father in law just bought a 06 crew cab but 4x4 and he got 17.3 on the highway. I think my sierra has more power than my Dodge did, and the sierra is stock...plus I only got 13 hwy with my Dodge, Sierra is already above my Dodge on MPG without any aftermarket.

Im not doggin on Ram's...mine was reliable, I just dont want to dump more money into a 11 year old truck that gets 13 mpg at best and always empties my wallet...this is MY case with MY truck. I realize other Ram's last longer here and there, but MINE did not.

I debated quitting reading here for a while, as it seemed that every common problem I read up on, and did some checking into, to see what repairs were like.... I ended up finding out first hand...... Ooops?

HY, I hear you. I would have liked to get a 98 or a 99 with a quad cab and the 5.9 but I couldn't find many of those below $4k. My truck was $1900. Drove it home the same day (about 70 miles) hitting 85mph on the highways... nice and straight... no shimmies AND the rocker panels were solid. It has it's problems for sure but it's drivable (knock on wood).

Blair, True. For the money I plan to dump into this thing, I could wait and buy one with a hemi. The problem is I don't like the design as much. Also, by the time I have the cash to buy one with a hemi, there will be something better. I broke the cycle!
