'97 ram rearend
hello;
i have a '97 ram 1/2t 4x4 with a drum rearend, 3:55...
its kinda noisy...
i have found a complete 3:55 rearend from a 2001 dodge 1/2t ram 4x4 that is disc brake equipped...
my '97 has 16" bone stock steel silver rims...will they fit the 2001 disc brake rearend...or will i need to use 17" that were factory on the '01...
the price of the rearend is $150 obo...which is obviously cheaper than bearings, seals and etc to rebulid mine if the disc brake one will work.
thanks.

the 2001.5 introduced rear disks. but mine was built in 03/2001 and it still has drums. my 01 also has 16 inch wheels, not 17's.
be careful that its really a 2001 9.25. check the shape of the pumpkin, etc.
measure everything. if the measurements and shock mounts and springs etc are the same, go for it. you can't go wrong for $150

i'm gonna take a drive over there (about 60mi one way) tomorrow and try my spare on it before cash changes hands...

As DH said, the late year 01's had disc brakes optional.
HOWEVER: I believe the 3/4 up trucks had them standard.
If it is a D60, that would be a rearend from a 2500, which might bolt up, might not.
Depends on the spring hangers and shock mounts as well as the pinion, since all of that would be from a 2500.

hang on now, you're changing your info regarding whether the 01 replacement is a 1500 or 2500, and/or a 9.25 or dana 60...
your 97 1500 is a chrysler 9.25 with the octagonal pumpkin and 2-1/2 inch rear springs, hangers, shackles, blocks.
a dana 60 from an 01 2500 or any other year is a very nice upgrade, but its not a perfect bolt in replacement. you'll have to do some extra work to fit your springs, possibly the drive shaft attachment to the yoke. its a good swap, but understand what you're getting into. the dana 60 pumpkin has an irregular shape, taller on one side than the other, and a thread fill plug.
if you get a dana 60, see if you can get the springs, shackles, etc, also drive shaft.
....and while you're at it see if he has a dana 60 front and get all that too.
