at this point, regarding the tv cable, your not trying to make shifts changes but return it back to stock, since its messed up. so verify that the shift lever is all the way to the front of the truck. VERY carefully pull the TV cable off of the stud at the the throttle lever and verify that the hole on the plastic boot is perfectly centered over the stud, when the cable is taught, but not moving the shift lever.
i have not tighten anything with the torque wrench. i just read in the haynes manual that it was in inch pounds and all i have are foot pound wrenches.

should the bands be adjusted?

i reset the TV cable (according to the haynes manual) to within 1/32 in all directions and snapped it back on. drove the truck and it shifts ok. still have my original problem and am going to the parts store now to get the sensor and solenoid.

You need an inch pound torque wrench to do it right, simple as that. And you will not get the sensor and solenoid both at an auto parts store.

I would, since you have the pan off. But I have the correct tools to do it right so no further damage is caused.

i will drain out the bucket of use fluid through a coffee filter and see if there are big chunks or whatever else.

i had to pick the wife up from work so i will have to finish tomorrow as it got dark.

thanks for all the patience yall have shown me as i work out this problem.

i have so much i need to do to this truck as i cant afford to buy a new one. the payments would kill me.
