Vibration in Torque Converter I think?
Hey Guys. I just bought a 2000 1500 ram 4x4 sport. 165000kms. Truck looks good. The guy i bought is from said that the trans was rebuilt a year ago but it is doing some funny things. This is the first ram i have owned and i am looking for some advice. First thing is it was kicking out of od because it was too hot. i am going to pull out the check valve in the cooler line and blow out the cooler today. Second it hangs on to second gear too long when the truck is warmed up. Third i am not sure if it is engaging the lock up converter at high way speed, i am leaning towards no. but if it does sometimes i get a vibration when the t-convert kicks out, if you tap the throttle it goes away. I am not sure what rpm the truck should be at on the high way at 100km/h right now it is a 2200rpm with 265/75 - 16 tires. and last i can slip the t-converter to 2500 rpms by standing on the breaks is that normal. I am looking for some advice i want to get this truck fixed up. Thanks.
100kmh is about 60 MPH.. or thereabouts. If you have the 3.55 gears, you are running too high in O/D. Same size tires here, and at 60, fourth gear, TCC locked, I am at about 1500 RPM.....
Is yours an Off-Road edition by any chance?

Get a build sheet for your truck. If you have the offroad addition, they came stock with 4.10 gears... so, your tach WILL read higher than mine. Not sure by how much. (too lazy to hit the calculator.
) You can get a build sheet from any dodge dealer, or, there is a thread in the FAQ section with a link for email request.
Vibration might be a low speed miss too...... Mine would feel absolutely horrible when TCC engaged when I was having some ignition problems.

I was thinking that had to do with the excess heat of the fluid and maybe that was why it was shifting out of O/D

If the check valve is stuck shut, then, the trans WILL overheat in relatively short order, not as quickly in winter..... If the trans temp gauge comes on, the check valve is the second thing to check. Fluid level is first.
