Default New Magnaflow, do I reset the PCM?

I installed a new 22" Magnaflow muffler this evening, and I didn't feel a noticeable gain in performance, kinda disappointed. Do I need to take off the battery cable so the PCM can reset? I know they recommended doing that when I put on the 52mm TB, so I'm curious if I need to do it again?

What is upstream from your muffler? (I note there is no cat.....) Stock manifolds? If so, you won't be able to feel any power gain from just changing the muffler. Resetting the PCM isn't necessary. (and won't help anyway.)

Yes stock manifolds. After I gutted the cat it didn't sound too good, so that's one of the reasons for changing the muffler. Still pretty quiet, I was expecting a little more sound, but I'm happy with it.
So a good set of headers will wake it up? I haven't added an CAI yet, that might help some too?

My understanding is it is the Y pipe that is the real restriction. So, just a pair of shorties probably won't make much, if any, difference either. Long tubes, or, a better Y pipe I think are what you need. (along with the shorties....)

Would a better y pipe include a magna flow direct fit cat? I know that replaces the stock y pipe. Just not sure if it is less restrictive of a y than the stock one.

No experience there..... I don't have emissions testing here, so, when the time comes..... I will just do full custom exhaust. I haven't really looked into anything else.

Another member made the comment about the Y pipe. He noticed it when he took it off how screwed up it was, and replacing it with something else made a noticeable difference.... Don't recall what he replaced it WITH though.

With the gutted cat ur losing a lot of low end power replace it with a straight pieace of pipe or a high flow cat trust me I gutted mine and lost a lot of low end power but then I ran a pipe trough it and it made a world of difference

Thanks HeyYou. I would have to think it is better than the restrictive stock y pipe. I do have to agree with dodgeman that a straight pipe or a hi flo cat would be better for the bottom end than the gutted cat.

Here's the Y-Pipe I'm going to put on my 98 Ram

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...31020/10002/-1

Along with some Gibson Shorties I scored off EBAY for 80 bucks, and a Gibson RV muffler.

I would never pay 400 bucks for shorties, I don't think they are much better than stock manifolds since they are only 1-5/8" primaries but for 80.00...Why not?

The real restriction is the stock 2" Y-Pipe.
